Our Story
WHERE IT BEGAN
Jane and Kate met more than 20 years ago while working together at the head office of a large retailer, where they ran the babywear department.
Their careers later took them in different directions — Kate travelling and Jane moving to Australia to work for another large retailer — before eventually bringing them both back to the UK.
By then, they had young families of their own and conventional office life no longer quite fitted the family life they wanted. Looking for a different way of working, they returned to what they knew and loved.
In May 2013, The Little Tailor was born.
FROM THE BEGINNING
The idea was simple: to create timeless, high-quality pieces that could become part of family life and be passed between siblings, cousins and friends.
More than a decade later, some of those early TLT pieces are still being passed around Kate's own family — with a few now reaching cousin number four.
MORE THAN A DECADE ON
What began with babywear — and boxes stored in Kate's garden shed — has grown into a British family brand spanning baby, kids, women and men, alongside the matching family collections that have become such an important part of TLT.
Along the way, we've grown our small team, moved from the garden shed into a proper warehouse and seen TLT stocked by names including Selfridges, Next and John Lewis, as well as independent boutiques and our own website.
A lot has changed since 2013, but what matters to us hasn't. We still want to create pieces we genuinely love — clothes made to be worn, enjoyed and hopefully passed on for years to come.
